Pediatric speech therapy is designed to assist children with their communication, feeding related disorders and speech. This can include difficulties with understanding language, speaking, swallowing, and using words correctly.

Speech language pathologists, also known as pediatric speech therapists, work with children to diagnosis, asses, and treat speech and communication disorders, as well as swallowing and feeding issues.

What Should You Expect From A Speech-Language Therapist?

First things first, make sure your therapist has the proper credentials.

Check to see how long they have been in practice and what kinds of licensing and certifications they have earned. Ask about their experience and what approach they take to speech therapy.

Here at First Words Speech Therapy, all of our team members have a minimum of a Master’s level of education in the field of speech pathology. Out therapists also hold a department of health license, as well as national certification in the field of speech pathology. All of our therapists have also been fingerprinted and have received Level II background screening clearance.

What Are The Goals?

With careful evaluation, the therapist will understand the need of the patient. Ask about the goals and how they will be reached, including techniques and practice methods.

Will Insurance Cover The Therapy?

While it depends on the individual plan and benefits, most insurances cover some type of speech therapy. Either fully or with some limitations.

First Words Therapy accepts several Commercial insurance plans, as well as Medicaid. We work diligently with insurance companies to help get full or partial coverage for a patient’s services.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the team at First Words Speech Therapy encourages everyone to join us in learning more about breast cancer and support those who are suffering with the disease.

Though we have made great progress in early detection, cancer treatment and finding a cure, we still have a long way to go.
