Model clear speech
It is important to speak clearly to your child, this way they can mimic good speech patterns. So your child can process each sound and can hear what you are saying, don’t speak too fast. In fact, speaking low enough for your child to hear each sound, can be very helpful.
It is also important to use proper labels for things. It may be cute to hear your child to say “wa-wa” for water or “thingers” for fingers, but teach proper pronunciation the sooner they can say words clearly. To further strengthen pronunciation skills,, use repetitive exercises.
Narrate language to your child
Narrating helps identify phrases and words, even for the most basic objects and actions. Talk to them in the car, where you are going, what you are going to do, and even what you are going to make for dinner. Even bath time and brushing their teeth can be a great opportunity to have your child describe what they are doing. As they build more connections, they will ask more questions.
Reading books
Reading is very important, it helps build language skills. Start when they are babies with short books, with 1-3 phrases, or where words are often repeated. When they get older, as them to repeat what you are reading. Instead of books that ask yes or no questions, try to read books that encourage your child to answer with a couple of words
